Coach Linford Reid’s lifelong journey in sports, particularly soccer, has been defined by passion, dedication, and a genuine love for nurturing young talent. As a Certified Coach with a Canadian B-License and Futsal License, Linford has spent decades working with athletes to unlock their full potential, fostering not only skilled players but also confident and well-rounded individuals.

A Humble Beginning

Linford’s love for sports began early, excelling in multiple disciplines like cricket, football, wrestling, track and field, and badminton, where he earned championship titles in high school. However, it was soccer that captured his heart. Inspired by legends like Pele, Linford dreamed of playing professionally. Unfortunately, a severe knee injury ended his aspirations as a player, but it opened the door to a greater purpose: coaching and mentoring the next generation of athletes.

Coaching Career Highlights

Linford began his coaching journey as a volunteer for youth soccer in Brampton and five years later moved to Caledon, Ontario Canada from 1997 to 2014. His commitment and vision quickly elevated him to Head Coach roles, where he achieved remarkable milestones:

•Chinguacousy Soccer Club (1990 Boys Team):

•Advanced the team to the Ontario Youth Soccer League (OYSL).

•Competed in top-tier tournaments across North America, including finishing as runners-up to Mexico’s Pumas in the USA Cup in Texas.

•Won the U17 showcase tournament in North Carolina, breaking a two-year undefeated streak of the prestigious ING Academy.

•International Exposure:

•Organized tours to England, Scotland, and Ireland, where his team competed against professional youth academies such as West Ham United, Middlesbrough, and Hibernian.

•Fostered scholarship opportunities and professional trials, including goalkeeper Adam Streete, who earned a contract with West Ham United.

•Canadian Representation:

•Assisted in coaching his son’s U15 team to victory in the All-Canadian Regional Championship, earning an invitation to the U15 World Cup in Berlin, Germany (2000).

•Participated as a Head Coach in a memorable match at BMO Field, where his sons Linford Jr. and Sahjah played on opposing sides.

Community & Global Contributions

Linford’s influence extends beyond club and academy soccer. He has made meaningful contributions to underserved communities, particularly in Jamaica, where he has donated equipment and worked with local schools to support youth passionate about soccer.

•McGrath High School (Jamaica):

•Assisted Head Coach Jermain Thomas for several years.

•Helped the team reach the semi-finals of the Dacosta Cup for the first time, a milestone achievement for a rural school.

•Contributed to the development of Peter McGregor, who became the first Dacosta Cup player to be signed by Swedish club Djurgården of the Allsvenskan League.
